Cardiff-based, Cansford Laboratories has been awarded a contract for the second successive time to carry out chemical toxicology testing for the GMC in fitness to practice cases.
The General Medical Council (GMC) regulates doctors working in the UK. It helps protect patients and improve UK medical education and practice by supporting students, doctors, educators and healthcare providers.
The GMC uses chemical testing in appropriate fitness to practice cases, chemical testing helps the GMC establish if and what substances have been/are being misused by a doctor and if the doctor has complied with undertakings or conditions imposed.
Cansford’s Managing Director, Kim Bagley commented
We are delighted to have been once again chosen to carry out this important service for the GMC. Winning the contract for the second successive time is testament to the service provided by the team at Cansford. The welfare of doctors is of paramount importance to the GMC and we have developed processes that are minimally invasive – and therefore less stressful for the donor – than those offered by the wider industry.
