Cansford Laboratories has announced official confirmation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) of successful transition from ISO17025: 2005 to ISO17025: 2017 accreditation. This has been achieved ahead of the transition deadline of 30 November 2020.
The ISO standard specifies general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of laboratories. It looks at all of the requirements that testing and calibration laboratories and testing organisations have to meet to prove that they operate a quality system; are technically competent; and can generate technically valid results.
ISO17025: 2017 recognises and incorporates the use of computer systems, electronic records, and the production of electronic results and reports. The scope has also been revised to cover all laboratory activities. This includes testing, calibration, and the sampling associated with subsequent calibration and testing.
Those commissioning the services offered by drug and alcohol testing laboratories should be aware that ISO 17025 is awarded on a substance-by-substance basis. This means that a drug and alcohol testing laboratory can claim ISO 17025 accreditation for their test processes, even for only one substance that it tests for. The UKAS schedule search tool (https://www.ukas.com/search-accredited-organisations/) provides a tool to check accreditation including a target substance and the relevant metabolite.
Cansford Laboratories is accredited to ISO 17025: 2017 standard for testing the widest range of drug groups and metabolites in hair in the UK .
