Cansford Laboratories will be changing the Cansford 9 Common Drug Panel to include Ketamine starting from next month in order to meet a demand in testing from clients.
About the Cansford 9 Common Drug Panel
The Cansford 9 Common Drug Panel is a test performed on a sample of hair for the nine most abused drugs in the UK. This test is often court ordered by name and frequently requested by family law practitioners and social services.
Drug types
At the time of writing, the 9 Common Drug Panel test comprises the following drug groups:
- Amphetamine
- Methamphetamines
- Benzodiazepines
- Cannabinoids
- Cocaine
- Mephedrone
- Methadone
- Opiates
- Tramadol
Changes to the panel
We regularly review the drugs included on the panel to ensure they are the nine drugs most found in circulation in the UK, requested and detected at our laboratory. A recent assessment has shown requests for Ketamine are increasing and this drug group is far more commonly detected than Mephedrone.
We have therefore decided to remove Mephedrone from the 9 Common Drug Panel and replace with Ketamine. This change updates the panel composition in line with use and detection and provides value for our clients when ordering tests.
About Ketamine
Ketamine is generally used as a recreational drug both in powder and liquid form, often referred to as “Special K” for its hallucinogenic and dissociative effects.
